The beaches in Barcelona are amazing. In fact Barcelona is considered one of the top ten beach cities in the world. The combination of the wonderful climate and the stunning views create an atmosphere few places can match. Add to that the relaxed Spanish attitude, Catalonian culture, diverse entertainment options, some of the world’s best football, fabulous food, world renowned art, innovative architecture both ancient and modern, historic monuments, unique districts and neighborhoods and 68 parks boasting all manner of flora in a kaleidoscope of color and you have a vacation destination that families, lovers and adventure seekers alike can find just what they are looking for.
While beaches like Sant Sebastia and Barceloneta, which was recently voted the Best Urban Beach in the World and the third best beach overall on the planet get lots of attention and visitors, Barcelona has over 2.5 miles of beautiful beaches. Barcelona’s location on the Iberian Peninsula means it enjoys both the mild Mediterranean climate, the brisk breezes off the Atlantic Ocean and the tropical African air. It’s as if the gods conspired to create in Barcelona the perfect place for rest, relaxation and enjoyment. Perfect climate. Perfect beaches. And all of this combined with the perfection that is Catalonian culture.
Barcelona has beaches on both its East coast and its West and a concrete bathing area on its easternmost end. While Sant Sebastia and Barceloneta are world famous, Barcelona’s other five beaches are excellent as well. Nova Icaria, Bogatell, Mar Bella, Nova Mar Bella and Llevant were created when several buildings were demolished to make way for expansions during the 1992 Summer Olympics.
If you can tear yourself away from the beautiful beaches, Barcelona offers so much more. Stunning parks like Montjuic, Parc de la Cuitadella and Parc Guell designed by the incredibly talented Antoni Gaudi, superior shopping, museums with mind-blowing modern and ancient art, must see sites like La Sagradia Familia Church and other masterpieces created by Gaudi, the Gran Teatre del Liceu and some of the most vibrant nightlife in all of Europe and perhaps the world all compete for your attention.
But, if you really want to relax, Barcelona’s beaches is the place to be.
