Social engineering is a phenomenon of recent development. Over the last two decades we have seen the introduction of PCs (personal computers) and the release of the WWW (World Wide Web). These new technologies enhanced the way we complete business and pleasure, but it has also had detrimental effects. Because we can now do our banking and shopping on the internet, we can also have that information stolen from us. One article defines social engineering as the process by which a hacker deceives others into disclosing valuable data that will benefit the hacker in some way.
